Skopje. One year after the NATO summit in Bucharest Macedonia’s Alliance membership is moving away. A solution to the name dispute is not near and without it we cannot even think we will be part of the Alliance although we met all requirements, say Macedonian experts, cited by Vreme daily.
The absence of Macedonian officials from today’s anniversary NATO summit is a big drawback, especially after Albania and Croatia joined NATO although it was Macedonia that was thought to be a leader in the so-called Adriatic enlargement group, the daily writes in an article subtitled Adriatic flock flies into NATO without us.
Macedonia does not have an alternative to the NATO membership, says former Minister of Defense Lazar Elenovski.
When the country joins NATO security umbrella, investments in Macedonia will go up, he says and gives Bulgaria as an example. After Bulgaria joined NATO foreign investments increased four times and in Albania the investments already total to USD 5 billion in all.
